Discussions focused on boosting coordinated military operations in the Northeast, enhancing intelligence sharing, and responding decisively to the escalating attacks by the terrorist group.
Sources familiar with the high-level meetings disclosed that the talks were prompted by the recent uptick in attacks on both civilian and military targets in Borno State.
Governor Zulum had earlier in the week, during an expanded security meeting in Maiduguri, raised alarm over the deteriorating security situation, urging urgent and coordinated federal intervention.
Zulum was accompanied to the meetings by Borno State’s three senators—Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South), Mohammed Tahir Monguno (Borno North), and Kaka Shehu Lawan (Borno Central)—as well as House of Representatives members Mukhtar Betera Aliyu and Engr. Bukar Talba.
Also present was Professor Usman Tar, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Security.
