Uromi Killings: Edo, FG Launch Joint Probe as Kano Delegation Submits Victims’ Report
In a decisive move to uncover the truth behind the recent killing of 16 hunters in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State, the Federal Government and Edo State Government have inaugurated a joint fact-finding committee.
Governor Monday Okpebholo disclosed this while receiving a high-level delegation from Kano State led by Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo at the Government House in Benin City. The Kano delegation presented a comprehensive report documenting the identities of the victims, survivors, and their next-of-kins, following an investigation mandated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.
Addressing the delegation, Governor Okpebholo revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is personally following the matter with grave concern. According to him, the President has expressed deep dissatisfaction over the incident and is committed to ensuring justice for the victims while strengthening national security.

“This tragedy has revealed systemic issues we must address. The President is not only upset but is fully invested in ensuring this matter is resolved with transparency and finality. The joint committee between the federal and state governments will dig into the remote and immediate causes of the killings and offer lasting solutions,” Okpebholo stated.
He assured the Kano delegation that the submitted report would be instrumental in the committee’s work, and promised regular updates to keep the public informed.
Highlighting the historical ties between Kano and Edo, the governor emphasized, “We are a peace-loving state. People from Kano and other parts of Nigeria have lived here peacefully and contributed to our growth, especially in trade and commerce.”
On his part, Deputy Governor Gwarzo commended Governor Okpebholo for his swift response and solidarity visit to Kano following the incident. He reiterated the need for transparency and justice, noting that the Kano-commissioned committee had verified the identities of the 16 deceased individuals, who hailed from five different local government areas in Kano.
“You gave us your word that justice will be served, and we believe in your leadership. What we seek now is a transparent and sincere investigation that will ensure such a tragedy never happens again,” Gwarzo added.
The joint probe is expected to commence work immediately, as both states and the federal authorities move to bring clarity, justice, and closure to the affected families and communities.
