IGP Visits Plateau Over Fresh Attack, Assures Justice, Renewed Security Measures

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has paid a condolence visit to Plateau State following the recent spate of violent attacks in Bassa Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of dozens of residents.

Accompanied by top-ranking police officials including AIG Funsho Adegboye (in charge of Police Mobile Force), AIG Zachariah Fera (Zone 4), and AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka (Commandant, Police Staff College Jos), the IGP arrived in the state to commiserate with the people and evaluate ongoing security efforts.

During his visit to the Government House in Jos, IGP Egbetokun met with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and expressed his deep condolences over the tragic incidents. He strongly condemned the attacks and assured the governor and citizens of Plateau that the Nigeria Police Force would do everything within its power to de-escalate tensions and bring those responsible to justice.

In addition to his condolence visit, the police chief held a strategic meeting with tactical commanders to assess the current security deployments and operational assets in the state. He emphasized the need for enhanced coordination and effectiveness in policing efforts to safeguard affected communities.

To further reinforce operations in Plateau, the IGP directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to take charge and oversee all ongoing security interventions aimed at restoring peace across the state.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the police remain resolute in their pursuit of justice for the victims and in ensuring peace and security across Plateau and the nation at large.

PRNigeria reports that the visit by the IGP comes amid growing calls for increased federal intervention in the face of recurring violence in parts of Plateau State.
