Navy Nabs Suspected Pipeline Vandal, Uncovers Crude Oil Dump Sites in Bayelsa
As part of its ongoing Operation DELTA SANITY to combat crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH has recorded another success with the arrest of a suspected pipeline vandal and the discovery of illegal crude oil dump sites in Bayelsa State.
According to credible information from naval sources, the arrest occurred on Wednesday, April 15, 2025, when the NNS SOROH patrol team apprehended a suspect engaged in tampering with oil infrastructure.

Following the arrest, the patrol team extended its operation into Igbebiri Community, where they uncovered and deactivated two large crude oil dump sites. The sites were reportedly loaded with several sacks of stolen crude oil, suspected to have been siphoned from vandalized pipelines.
The discovery is seen as another major step in the Nigerian Navy’s intensified campaign against economic sabotage in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.
In line with inter-agency collaboration efforts, the suspect was handed over to personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bayelsa State on Thursday, April 16, 2025, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Nigerian Navy has reiterated its commitment to sustaining maritime security operations and supporting the government’s efforts to curb crude oil theft and environmental degradation in the region.
