NIPR Slams Plateau Killings, Calls for Immediate Action
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has strongly condemned the renewed wave of deadly attacks in Bassa, Bokkos, and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State, describing the killings of innocent residents as callous, barbaric, and unacceptable.
In a statement personally signed by its President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, on Saturday, the Institute expressed deep sorrow over the recurring violence in a state once known for peace and hospitality.
“We are deeply saddened that Plateau, once a haven of peace, has tragically transformed into a killing field where human life appears to have lost its value,” Dr. Neliaku said.
He recalled that in 2021 and 2022, the NIPR organized the Citizens Summit for National Integration, Peace and Security, a national initiative that produced actionable insights and solutions aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

Dr. Neliaku emphasized that the report of the summit, titled “Rebooting Nigeria 2.0,” was submitted to relevant government institutions, and urged all levels of government to adopt its practical recommendations to promote peace and unity across the country.
While commiserating with the government and people of Plateau State—particularly the families who lost their loved ones—the NIPR urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the heinous acts.
The Institute also called for greater collaboration among stakeholders, including local communities, security forces, and relevant government agencies, to prevent further violence.
“We encourage the Plateau State Government to sustain engagements with affected communities, consult relevant stakeholders, and initiate enduring strategies that foster mutual understanding, friendship, and long-term peace,” the statement added.
