Gov. Abdulrazaq Assesses Security Situation at Kaima Community as Gunmen Kill 4 in Ilesha Attack

Amid growing security concerns in Kwara State, Governor Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq on April 21, 2025, embarked on a high-level assessment tour to Kaiama Local Government Area (LGA) following a spate of violent incidents, including a deadly attack in Ilesha Baruba that left four people dead and two injured, PRNigeria learnt.

The governor, accompanied by top security chiefs including the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Maj. Gen. O.G Onubugu, Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo, DSS Director Michael Aganwu, and Brigade Commander Sobi, Brig. Gen. E.B Barkins, met with the Emir of Kaiama and local stakeholders to evaluate the security situation, particularly in Kemeji and surrounding villages near the Kainji National Park.

Also present were the Chairmen of Kaiama and Baruten LGAs, State Assembly members, commissioners, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, District Heads, and members of the Emirate Council of Baruten. Discussions focused on persistent threats facing the region, with emphasis on collaborative strategies to reinforce security.

Zagazola reports that the governor’s visit came just hours before a brutal assault in Ilesha Baruba, where gunmen stormed the town’s motor park around 9:30 p.m., opening fire at a local joint. Intelligence sources revealed that at least four individuals, including Alhaji Ja’awire, Abduljabar, and Mohammed Nasamu, were killed, while two others sustained critical injuries.

Security forces responded to the scene, conveying the victims’ bodies to the Ilesha Baruba Morgue for autopsy and transporting the injured to a hospital for emergency treatment.

Governor Abdulrasaq, who departed for Ilorin later that evening, vowed that the government would not relent in ensuring peace and safety across the state, stressing the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between security agencies and local communities.
