IGP Celebrates Officer for Emerging as Best Graduating Student in Chinese University
In a moment of pride for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, received and celebrated Sergeant Peter Theophilus Tanko at the Force Headquarters in Abuja for his exceptional academic performance in the People’s Republic of China.
Sergeant Tanko, a police officer attached to the INTERPOL section of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), distinguished himself as the best graduating student at the Jiangsu Police Institute in China after completing a five-year Bachelor’s Degree in Law. His academic journey began with a mandatory one-year Chinese language course at Nanjing Normal University, under a government-sponsored scholarship program.

His outstanding academic record earned him the honour of delivering the valedictory speech on behalf of all international students at the 2023 convocation ceremony of the Jiangsu Police Institute.
The IGP commended Tanko’s dedication, discipline, and scholarly achievements, describing his success as a beacon of hope and a source of pride for the Force and the country. He emphasized that Tanko’s feat demonstrates the enormous potential within the Nigeria Police Force and underscores the importance of educational advancement and global exposure among officers.
