Delta Police Eliminate 5 Kidnappers, Recover AK-47 Rifles, Ammunition

Delta Police Eliminate 5 Kidnappers, Recover AK-47 Rifles, Ammunition

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have neutralized five suspected kidnappers who had been terrorizing communities including Ubulu-Uku, Issele-Uku, and Issele-Asagba.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued Sunday in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives raided a hideout located within the Agu-Amawbia forest in Anambra State. During the operation, they recovered an AK-47 rifle and 132 rounds of live ammunition.

Following further investigation, the police extended their operation to another criminal hideout between Issele-Asagba and Otulu, where the gang leader, Bello Abubakar, and his members were lying in ambush.

According to Edafe, upon sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange. However, the superior firepower of the police overwhelmed the kidnappers, forcing them to flee with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

“Five of the suspects, including the notorious Bello Abubakar, who sustained severe injuries and could not escape, were apprehended and taken to the hospital where they were confirmed dead,” Edafe said.

He further revealed that two additional AK-47 rifles and 18 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from the scene. Meanwhile, a manhunt is ongoing to track down other injured members of the gang who fled the encounter.

The Delta Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to flushing out criminal elements from the state and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
