EFCC Nabs Renowned Businesswoman Aisha Achimugu Upon Voluntary Return to Nigeria

Prominent businesswoman and socialite, Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the early hours of Tuesday, shortly after arriving at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, from London.

According to a statement released by her legal team, Achimugu returned voluntarily to Nigeria to honour an invitation by the EFCC in connection with an ongoing probe into alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering. She was reportedly taken into custody around 5 a.m. at the airport.

The arrest followed an earlier directive by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, mandating her to appear before the EFCC on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. The judge had also ordered that she appear in court the next day, Wednesday, April 30, to continue legal proceedings linked to the investigation.

Achimugu’s lawyers emphasized that her return was in compliance with court filings where she had indicated her intention to cooperate with investigators and present herself before the anti-graft agency.

While details of the allegations remain sketchy, the development marks a significant turn in the high-profile probe that has drawn public and media interest due to Achimugu’s elite social standing and business profile.
