Police Neutralize Bandit, Nab Informant in Benue, Kaduna
The police have recorded significant successes in the fight against banditry with the killing of a notorious bandit in Benue State and the arrest of a suspected bandit collaborator in Kaduna State, PRNigeria reports.
In Benue, operatives of the State Police Command’s Tactical Team on April 29 neutralized a notorious bandit identified as Akumave Shogodo during a gun battle in the Zaki-Biam axis.
The operation followed actionable intelligence which led the team to a suspected criminal hideout around 6:30 a.m. Upon sighting the officers, the suspects opened fire, prompting a gunfight. Shogodo, who was injured during the exchange, was taken to a hospital where he was later confirmed dead. A locally fabricated short gun was recovered at the scene, while other gang members fled with varying degrees of injury.

According to Zagazola, Shogodo was known for terrorizing communities in the Zaki-Biam area and had been on the police radar for several months.
In a separate operation in Kaduna State, police arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Rabiu Usman, in Giwa Local Government Area over suspicious financial dealings linked to bandit activities.
According to the Kaduna State Police Command, Usman was apprehended on April 28 by operatives of the Kidandan Division following a report by a POS operator, Kabiru Abdullahi, who raised concerns about a transaction involving Usman and a man identified as Ibrahim Bature.
Abdullahi reported that Usman had requested his account details to receive funds from Bature, who was later identified through intelligence as a suspected bandit. Acting swiftly, police arrested Usman when he arrived to collect the money.
The suspect is currently in custody and has provided useful information to investigators. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Ibrahim Bature, who remains at large.
Both operations reflect ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat banditry and ensure public safety in affected regions.
