How Anambra Police Foiled Kidnap Attempt, Rescued 3 Victims – Spokesperson

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command on Saturday evening foiled a kidnap attempt in the Neni community, Anaocha Local Government Area, successfully rescuing three victims, including a couple.

The suspected kidnappers had trailed and ambushed the victims at Okacha Junction, forcing them into another vehicle as they attempted to whisk them away. However, the swift response of the police thwarted their plans.

According to an eyewitness, “The hoodlums suddenly double-crossed the victims’ vehicles, forced them into another car, and were driving off when the police arrived. After a hot chase, the kidnappers abandoned the victims and escaped in another vehicle. It felt like a scene from an action movie.”

Confirming the incident on Sunday, spokesperson for the State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said officers attached to the Neni Divisional Headquarters acted on a distress call at about 8:45 p.m. on May 3, 2025.

“Police operatives foiled a kidnap attempt, rescued three victims — including a husband and wife — and recovered one of the victims’ vehicles from the scene,” Ikenga stated.

He added that a joint security team, including the Military, Civil Defence, and local vigilantes, has launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and is working to recover a black Lexus 350 SUV with registration number ABJ 557 LD, which was reportedly snatched from one of the victims and used by the kidnappers to escape.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and support ongoing efforts to ensure public safety across the state.
