Shun Drug Abuse, Unauthorized Journeys – NYSC DG Charges Corps Members
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has issued a stern warning to corps members to steer clear of drug abuse and unauthorized travel, urging them to embrace discipline and focus during their service year.
General Nafiu gave the advice during his official visit to the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp located at Kusala-Dam in Karaye Local Government Area of Kano State.

Addressing the corps members, the DG stressed that the consumption of hard drugs and dangerous stimulants could shatter their future, urging them to remain committed to building meaningful and successful lives. He further emphasized that unauthorized and night travel without official clearance from NYSC poses a significant risk and should be avoided.
“Anything done under the influence of hard drugs always leads to regret,” Nafiu warned, adding that corps members should rather channel their energy towards becoming agents of national development and unity.
In a situation report shared via Facebook, the NYSC Kano State Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Abdulkarim Abubakar, informed the DG that a total of 1,987 corps members—including 1,110 females and 877 males—are currently in camp, representing all 36 states and the FCT.
She commended the corps members for demonstrating a high sense of responsibility, dedication, and loyalty to the scheme.
The DG’s visit underscores the NYSC’s continued commitment to shaping responsible youth for national progress.
