Atiku Slams Bwala Over Remarks, Alleges Tinubu Camp in Panic Mode

The Atiku Media Office has issued a scathing response to comments made by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, accusing the presidency of mounting a coordinated smear campaign against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement on Monday, the media office expressed “utter contempt” for Bwala’s remarks during a recent interview on TVC, describing them as “sanctimonious pontificating” and an act of betrayal from a “political turncoat.” Bwala, a former spokesperson for Atiku’s 2023 presidential campaign, had criticized the former vice president, questioning his political relevance and legacy.

“It is both ironic and pathetic that Mr. Bwala, who rode on Atiku Abubakar’s platform to national prominence, now seeks to diminish the statesman’s legacy to curry favour with a floundering administration,” the statement read.

The media office dismissed Bwala’s criticisms as reflective of a deeper anxiety within the Tinubu administration, suggesting that Atiku’s ongoing coalition-building efforts with other progressive leaders had “clearly rattled the ruling elite.”

“If Atiku is truly a spent force, why the relentless obsession with his political future? Why allocate presidential platforms to attack him?” the statement queried, insisting that Atiku remains the most formidable opposition figure in Nigeria’s political landscape.

According to the statement, the national coalition being galvanized by Atiku is focused on rescuing the country from what it described as “economic collapse, institutional failure, and democratic erosion.” It added that no amount of “historical revisionism or sanctimony” can erase Atiku’s record as a consistent advocate of reform and restructuring since 1999.

The Atiku Media Office also took a swipe at Bwala’s political trajectory, accusing him of abandoning principles for relevance and warning that his new role does not grant him the moral authority to critique his former principal.

“Atiku Abubakar’s legacy as a unifier and patriot is impervious to the revisionist bile of yesterday’s defectors turned today’s defenders of dysfunction,” the statement added.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of Atiku’s commitment to rebuilding Nigeria and a dismissal of what it described as distractions from “political jesters masquerading as patriots.”

The confrontation adds to the intensifying political rhetoric ahead of anticipated realignments among opposition parties.
