JUST IN: Troops Foil Terrorists’ Attack on Military Base, Neutralize Scores in Borno

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI on Tuesday successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on their position in Izge, Borno State, neutralizing several insurgents and capturing vital combat assets in a fierce gun duel that lasted hours.

According to a statement signed by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations at the Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when insurgents attempted to breach the military base. However, the alert and determined troops swiftly responded, foiling the assault and forcing the terrorists to flee in disarray.

“The courageous troops maintained high levels of determination, resulting in the neutralization of the terrorists while others retreated in disarray,” the statement read.

In the aftermath of the attack, troops pursued the fleeing insurgents, neutralizing at least seven more in the process. The military also recovered significant combat equipment used by the terrorists, including one motorcycle, 10 bicycles, and a PKT automatic machine gun fitted with ammunition belts.

The army further confirmed that a separate terrorist attempt at Mallam Fatori was also thwarted, resulting in severe consequences for the attackers.

While commending the gallant troops for their resilience and bravery, the Commander of the Theatre charged them to sustain the momentum in order to ensure a completely terrorist-free environment in the region.

“The successful foiling of the attack brings to fore the commitment of the troops to decisively deal with the terrorists once and for all,” the Army stated.

This latest victory adds to a series of gains recorded under Operation HADIN KAI in the ongoing military campaign against insurgency in the North East.
