Navy Commissions Solar-Powered Borehole Project in Niger Community

The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a solar-powered motorised industrial borehole with a 60,000-litre capacity water storage tank at Bayan Waya Community in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.

This is part of the significant stride by the service towards enhancing civil-military relations and improving grassroots development across communities.

The project, executed under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project (CNS-QIP), was officially unveiled on Thursday, May 8, 2025. It represents one of several community-targeted initiatives aimed at strengthening the Nigerian Navy’s Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) framework nationwide.

Spearheaded by Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the CNS-QIP was designed to complement the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through grassroots development and humanitarian outreach. The Bayan Waya project was personally facilitated by Rear Admiral Abdulmajid Majidadi Ibrahim, a native of the area, as a gesture of giving back to his community.

During the commissioning ceremony, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ogalla, who was represented by the Chief of Naval Transformation, Rear Admiral MK Unurhiere, reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to fostering robust military-civilian relations. “Civil-Military Cooperation is a globally recognized practice that bridges the gap between the armed forces and civil society to achieve operational and strategic goals,” Rear Admiral Unurhiere noted.

He added that the project not only aims to alleviate water scarcity in Bayan Waya but also to demonstrate the Nigerian Navy’s support for inclusive national development and its alignment with the country’s broader socio-economic objectives.

The residents of Bayan Waya, visibly elated, expressed deep appreciation to the Nigerian Navy, particularly Rear Admiral Ibrahim and the Chief of the Naval Staff, for the life-changing water facility. Community leaders hailed the initiative as a “new dawn” for the area, which had long grappled with access to clean water.

The Nigerian Navy reiterated its commitment to rolling out similar high-impact projects across other underserved communities as part of its ongoing Quick Impact Project initiative.
