CDS Musa Joins Putin, Xi at Moscow’s Red Square for 80th Victory Day Commemoration
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, participated in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Moscow’s historic Red Square.
The event, PRNigeria gathered that is part of activities marking the 80th anniversary of Victory Day a significant moment in global history commemorating the Allied triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II.
The ceremony, which began at 0900 hrs (GMT+3), was attended by delegations from more than 40 countries, including 32 heads of state and government.
General Musa who was accompanied by Major General U.A. Yusuf, Commander, Infantry Corps, and Brigadier General Obinna Azuikpe, Principal General Staff Officer to the CDS.
The wreath-laying, held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, served as a tribute to the millions of Soviet soldiers who perished during the war.

PRNigeria reports that Victory Day, officially observed on May 9, is Russia’s most prominent secular holiday and traditionally features military parades, remembrance events, and patriotic displays.
This year’s commemoration carried heightened significance as it marked eight decades since the end of World War II and took place against the backdrop of ongoing geopolitical tensions, including Russia’s protracted conflict in Ukraine.
General Musa later joined Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and other world leaders for the grand military parade on Red Square.
The display showcased Moscow’s military might and underscored the Kremlin’s continued push to foster strategic alliances beyond the West.
Nigeria reaffirmed its diplomatic ties with Russia and expressed solidarity with nations recognizing the enduring importance of global cooperation and historical remembrance.
