
CDS Musa Meets Russian Defence Minister, Reaffirms Nigeria-Russia Military Ties
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has paid a courtesy visit to Russia’s Minister of Defence, Mr. Andrey Belousov, to strengthen military ties between both nations.
The meeting, which coinside with commemorate Russia’s 80th Victory Day celebration held on Saturday, May 10, at the Russian Ministry of Defence in Moscow, underscored Nigeria’s solidarity with the Russian Federation in honouring the memory of its World War II heroes.
A statement signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, and released on yesterday.
The CDS’s visit also served to deepen defence relations and explore avenues for enhanced military cooperation.

During the talks, General Musa reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to its longstanding defence partnership with Russia.
He also highlighted key operational requirements of the Nigerian Armed Forces (AFN), which he noted could benefit from Russian technical and logistical support.
In response, Minister Belousov expressed appreciation for the visit and Nigeria’s show of solidarity.
He reiterated Russia’s readiness to assist the AFN under existing Military-Technical Cooperation agreements.
He further noted that future collaborative efforts including the upcoming Intergovernmental Working Group meetings would help define the next phase of bilateral defence engagement.
The visit is seen as part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to diversify its military partnerships and enhance its counter-terrorism and defence capabilities.
