Task Force Arrests 31 Suspects for Various Offences in Kano, Recovers Weapons, Illicit Drugs
In a sustained offensive against thuggery and substance abuse, the Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Security Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has arrested 31 suspects in a series of coordinated clearance operations across several neighborhoods between May 10 and 14, 2025.
The intelligence-led operations, carried out under the leadership of Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, targeted criminal hideouts and black spots in Dorayi, Ja’in, Sharada, Unguwar Dabai, Dukawa, Kabuga, Kofar Mata, and surrounding areas.
The arrests included 25 suspected thugs and six suspected drug dealers. Weapons and illicit substances recovered during the operations included four Dane guns, nine knives and cutlasses, three clubs, three and a half parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, 173 pieces of suspected exol tablets, and other intoxicants.

Among those apprehended were several notorious figures in Dorayi Quarters, identified as Dan Abba, Bola, Baka Kashi, Ramos, Abba Maciji, and Abdul Baki. The 25 suspected thugs have since been charged to Magistrate Court Number 16 along Zangeru Road and subsequently remanded. The six suspected drug dealers, including a well-known figure, Rabi’u Hamza, have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Authorities say the arrest of these individuals, particularly those regarded as the “arrowheads of insecurity” in Dorayi Quarters, marks a significant step toward resolving the two-decade-long issue of thuggery in the area.
“This operation is a milestone achievement in our ongoing efforts to combat thuggery and substance abuse in Kano State,” said Dr. Kofar Mata. “We are committed to sanitizing the streets and restoring peace to our communities.”
The Task Force Committee comprises a joint team of security agencies and government officials, all working collaboratively to restore public order and ensure a drug-free environment across the state. The committee reaffirmed its commitment to creating a safer and more peaceful Kano for all residents.
