Two Gunmen Killed, Officer Feared Dead as Joint Security Team Repels Attack in Anambra
A combined team of security operatives in Anambra State have repelled an attack on a security checkpoint at Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, killing two suspected gunmen. However, the encounter also left one security operative dead, while the assailants set ablaze an operational vehicle.
The fierce gun duel occurred in the late hours of May 15, 2025, when the armed attackers attempted to overrun the checkpoint. According to police sources, the joint security team, leveraging their superior firepower, overpowered the criminals, forcing them to flee and abandon one of their operational vehicles, a Toyota Sienna.

Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, condemned the attack, describing it as an affront and a test of the collective resolve of Anambra people to collaborate with security agencies in stamping out criminal elements from the state.
“This unpatriotic act will not go unpunished. We will leave no stone unturned in tracking down those responsible,” the CP assured.
He further disclosed that calm has since returned to the area, with additional security operatives deployed to strengthen surveillance and comb nearby forests in search of the fleeing hoodlums.
Meanwhile, the Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security operations by providing timely and credible information.
Further developments, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, will be communicated as the situation unfolds.
