COAS Orders Probe Into Alleged Assault on Police Detective by Soldiers in Ebonyi
The Nigerian Army has launched a probe into allegations that its personnel assaulted a police detective during a traditional leadership election in Ebonyi State.
The incident, captured in a viral video circulating on social media, allegedly occurred on 1 May 2025 in Mgbom N’Achara community, Ohaozara Local Government Area.
The video appears to show army personnel deployed for security duties manhandling a detective who was reportedly monitoring the election process.
In a statement released on Monday, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, said the Chief of Army Staff has ordered a thorough and transparent investigation into the matter to uncover the facts surrounding the presence and conduct of troops at the scene.

“This is in line with the Nigerian Army’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities,” the statement read.
The army urged members of the public to remain calm while the investigation is ongoing, assuring that any personnel found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with military regulations.
“The Nigerian Army remains professional and solely committed to its constitutional roles, especially in aid to civil authorities when called upon. It also values the trust and cooperation of Nigerians at all times,” the statement added.
The army further called for continued public support as it works to maintain national peace, security, and stability.
