Kano Police Arrest 6 Armed Robbers, Recover 4 Stolen Vehicles

The Kano State Police Command has recorded major successes in its ongoing crackdown on violent crimes, following the arrest of six suspects linked to two notorious armed robbery syndicates and the recovery of four stolen vehicles, among other valuables.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command revealed that the arrests and recoveries were made during multiple operations across Kano and neighboring states.

According to the release, the first major breakthrough occurred on May 10, 2025, when a tactical operation team led by CSP Rabiu Gidado, Officer-in-Charge of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), apprehended one Saidu Abubakar of Dan-Saidu Quarters, Naibawa, Kano. The suspect was tracked and arrested in Plateau State in possession of a stolen 2016 Toyota Corolla, which had been snatched from its owner, Nura Abdullahi, on May 2, 2025.

Upon interrogation, Abubakar confessed to being part of a vehicle-snatching syndicate, prompting further investigations.

In another operation, police operatives arrested three armed robbery suspects — Abdulaziz Usman, 27, of Goron Dutse Quarters; Umar Abubakar, 22, of Kazaure, Jigawa State; and Sunusi Abdullahi, 28, of Karaye LGA, Kano — in connection with a violent home invasion in the Ladanai Quarters, Hotoro area of Kano.

The suspects reportedly broke into a residence at about 3:30am on May 1, 2025, wielding knives and cutlasses. They made away with a black Toyota Yaris, three laptops, an iPhone 11, ₦102,000 in cash, and other valuables.

Following further leads, police arrested one Umar Aliyu in Kaduna State, who was identified as a buyer of stolen goods. The black Toyota Yaris and an unregistered Peugeot 406, reportedly snatched at Bechi Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, were recovered during the operation.

In a separate incident on May 16, 2025, detectives apprehended one Ibrahim Isa from Dorawa Zawan LGA, Plateau State, in Kano while attempting to sell a suspected stolen Howo concrete mixer vehicle. Investigations confirmed the vehicle had been stolen that same day from Kazaure LGA in Jigawa State.

The Command noted that all suspects are currently in custody and assisting investigations. They will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the inquiries.

Commending the efforts of the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, praised their professionalism and reassured residents of the Command’s unrelenting commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or crime-related information to the nearest police station or via the following hotlines: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.
