BREAKING: Troops Intensify Operations, Neutralize 16 Terrorists in Borno

In a decisive military engagement, troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) neutralized 16 terrorists in the early hours of Friday, 23rd May 2025, during a coordinated counterattack on insurgents in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a statement released on the official Facebook page of the Nigerian Army, the clash erupted around 1:00 a.m. when vigilant troops sighted a group of ISWAP/Boko Haram fighters converging near a military position in Damboa. The insurgents had reportedly launched an offensive aimed at a brigade formation in the area.

However, the Nigerian Army disclosed that troops immediately responded with sustained indirect fire, engaging the assailants in a fierce gun battle. “The main thrust of the attack targeted the Brigade, prompting the swift deployment of air support to assist ground forces,” the statement read.

The intense engagement, which lasted approximately two hours, ended with the terrorists being forced into retreat after suffering heavy losses. In total, 16 insurgents were confirmed neutralized during the encounter.

While an ammunition storage area was hit in the course of the exchange, army authorities confirmed that the situation was swiftly brought under control with no further escalation.

Troops are currently conducting a pursuit operation to track down fleeing terrorists and ensure complete mop-up of the area.

The Nigerian Army commended the gallantry and professionalism of the troops, reiterating its commitment to restoring peace and stability across the North-East region.

This latest success marks another milestone in the ongoing counter-insurgency efforts under Operation Hadin Kai, reinforcing the military’s resolve to eliminate terrorist threats in the country.
