Lagos Police Re-Arrest Escaped Osun Prison Inmate
A 39-year-old fugitive, Kabiru Oyedun, who escaped from the Ilesa Medium Security Custodial Centre in Osun State, has been re-arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.
Oyedun, who had been on the run following a jailbreak triggered by a structural breach in the prison’s perimeter wall, was apprehended on Tuesday, May 21, 2025, around 5:30 p.m. in the Ayobo area of Lagos.
Spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement, attributing the breakthrough to sustained intelligence efforts and heightened vigilance across the state.
“Oyedun was tracked and arrested by officers attached to the Ayobo Division as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to keep Lagos safe from fleeing criminals,” Hundeyin said.

Police sources say the escapee will be handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for transfer back to Osun State, where he is expected to complete his sentence.
The NCoS had launched a manhunt for inmates who escaped after torrential rainfall reportedly compromised part of the Ilesa facility’s perimeter wall. In a bid to expedite their capture, the service announced a N5 million bounty for credible information leading to any recapture.
“The public is encouraged to assist with useful tips, as a N5 million reward has been placed on each escapee from the Ilesa facility,” the NCoS earlier announced.
Oyedun’s re-arrest adds to the growing list of escapees being tracked down amid efforts to restore accountability and security in the wake of the prison break.
