NDLEA, US Narcotics Agency Strengthen Collaboration to Tackle Drug Trafficking in Nigeria
Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (US-DEA) have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering existing ties in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and substance abuse.
This renewed pledge emerged during a high-level meeting on Friday at the NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja between the agency’s Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), and Ms. Daphne Morrison, the newly appointed US-DEA Country Attaché to Nigeria.

Ms. Morrison, who recently assumed duty, emphasized her intention to make collaboration with NDLEA a top priority. “I wanted to make this one of my first engagements so we can continue to collaborate and work closely together. Thank you for the strong partnership so far, and I’m looking forward to building on that foundation,” she said.
She disclosed that plans are underway to roll out more training programs for NDLEA’s Special Operations Units and to explore new areas for joint operations in the coming months.
In his remarks, Gen. Marwa commended the DEA for its consistent support over the years. “Your predecessors were very supportive, and I’m confident that we will experience the same, if not more, with your leadership,” he stated.
The NDLEA chief highlighted the agency’s recent growth in manpower, structural capacity, and success in both drug supply and demand reduction. While he refrained from listing new demands, Marwa expressed optimism that the partnership would deepen further, especially in training, intelligence sharing, and operational support.
The meeting underscores both nations’ shared resolve to dismantle drug networks and protect communities from the devastating effects of narcotics.
