Sit-at-Home Orders Diminishing in S’East, Security Gaining Momentum – NSA Ribadu

National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has declared that the notorious sit-at-home orders enforced by secessionist groups in the South-East are steadily losing their grip, as government forces continue to gain ground in restoring peace and normalcy.

Ribadu made this assertion on Thursday during his presentation at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit in Abuja, where he highlighted the security milestones of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The NSA noted that the current government inherited five major security challenges: the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East, armed banditry in the North-West, secessionist violence by IPOB/ESN in the South-East, militancy in the Niger Delta, and communal and herder-farmer conflicts in the North-Central.

He credited coordinated efforts by security agencies for curbing mass killings, kidnappings, and widespread destruction by criminal elements across the country.

Providing statistics, Ribadu revealed that over 13,543 Boko Haram terrorists have been neutralised in the last two years, with more than 11,000 weapons recovered and destroyed. Additionally, he disclosed that 124,408 insurgents and their families have surrendered to the Nigerian military since Tinubu took office.

“In the South-East,” he said, “we are witnessing a positive shift—sit-at-home orders are no longer effective. Key figures within IPOB and ESN have been neutralised or captured, and normal life is gradually returning.”

He added that over 50 police stations and numerous outposts have been rebuilt in the region, with a marked decline in attacks on security personnel and improved socio-economic activities.

Ribadu also described 2025 as a pivotal year in the fight against banditry in the North-West. He cited the liberation of 11,250 hostages and the elimination of several notorious warlords including Ali Kachalla, Boderi, Halilu Sububu, Dangote, Isuhu Yellow, and Damuna.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, especially in areas like the Timbuktu Triangle and Tumbu Islands, Ribadu emphasized that military operations are ongoing and yielding results.

He concluded by reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to completely neutralize terrorist threats and restore peace across all regions.
