Police Arrest 2 Suspects Over Gruesome Murder of Lady in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two key suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a young woman from Nasarawa State whose body was found burned in a slum area known as “Gangare,” behind the Mile 12 Market in Lagos.
The incident, which occurred on May 24, 2025, has sparked widespread outrage and speculation. However, the Police have debunked rumors suggesting ethnic or religious motives behind the killing, clarifying that it stemmed from a domestic dispute involving the victim’s estranged boyfriend.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police disclosed that the young woman had been living in the slum with northern relatives and that her profession remains unknown at this time.
Preliminary investigations revealed that her ex-boyfriend, who is currently on the run, allegedly conspired with others to forcibly rekindle the relationship. When she resisted, he and his accomplices allegedly abducted her, murdered her in cold blood, and set her remains on fire.

“This is clearly a premeditated act of conspiracy and cold-blooded murder. There was no element of blasphemy involved as some rumors have falsely claimed,” Hundeyin stated.
Two suspects directly linked to the crime are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), assisting detectives in efforts to apprehend the remaining culprits, including the fleeing ex-boyfriend.
The Police assured the public that calm has returned to the Gangare slum and surrounding areas in the Mile 12 axis, dismissing fears of ethnic tension or reprisal attacks.
Residents of Lagos were urged to go about their lawful activities without panic and to refrain from spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary fear or unrest.
“The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and will provide timely updates as the investigation progresses,” the statement added.
The Command has also promised a discreet and conclusive investigation, pledging that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.
