IGP Commissions 50 Specialized Vehicles to Boost Police ‘Hazard-Related’ Operations

In a strategic move to bolster Nigeria’s security architecture, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, commissioned 50 state-of-the-art operational vehicles for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The commissioning ceremony, held in Abuja, marks a significant milestone in the IGP’s reform agenda aimed at modernizing the NPF to effectively tackle contemporary security threats, including terrorism and CBRN-related risks.

According to a press release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the newly unveiled vehicles are specially designed and equipped to handle high-risk explosive and hazardous material incidents. The investment reaffirms the IGP’s commitment to national safety, proactive threat mitigation, and operational excellence within the Police Force.

Speaking at the event, IGP Egbetokun lauded the bravery and professionalism of the EOD-CBRN operatives, describing them as the frontline responders in some of the most dangerous situations. He emphasized that the upgraded fleet will drastically improve the unit’s response time, mobility, and overall effectiveness in neutralizing threats and safeguarding communities.

“The commissioning of these vehicles is part of our broader effort to reposition the Nigeria Police Force into a technologically advanced institution capable of confronting and neutralizing dynamic security challenges,” the IGP stated.

The IGP also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering support to the Police Force and commitment to national security.

As the Nigeria Police Force continues to modernize its operations, the EOD-CBRN Unit is expected to play an increasingly vital role in ensuring public safety and maintaining national stability in the face of complex security threats.
