Police Arrest 5 Suspects, Restore Order in Kwara Community After Unrest
A swift response by the Kwara State Police Command has helped restore normalcy to Omu-Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area, following a spate of violent incidents involving irate youths and suspected criminals.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, and made available to newsmen on Monday, the disturbances began on Saturday, May 25, 2025, when operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) acting on credible intelligence arrested a known drug dealer and suspected arms trafficker, one Azeez, also known as “A-Z”.
While transporting the suspect to the station, a group of angry youths reportedly ambushed the operatives, forcibly freeing the suspect. In line with established safety protocols, the officers withdrew tactically and returned to base for re-evaluation.

Shortly after the initial attack, the same group allegedly mobilized and attempted to invade the police station in Omu-Aran at around 4:30 p.m., but were successfully repelled by officers on duty. The unrest continued as the hoodlums regrouped and stormed the palace of the Olomu of Omu-Aran, where they set ablaze a motorcycle belonging to the monarch’s police orderly.
In a related development, another group believed to be part of the same mob reportedly attacked the Olomu Aperan Microfinance Bank on Sunday, May 26, at about 2:00 p.m. Armed with stones and dangerous weapons, the attackers vandalized the bank’s CCTV cameras, damaged its signboard, and severely wrecked three vehicles parked in the premises.
Police reinforcements were promptly deployed to the scene, leading to the dispersal of the hoodlums. The bank’s staff were safely evacuated and escorted to the police station, and five suspects were arrested in connection with the attack.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, has since ordered intensified patrols and surveillance operations in the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
While assuring residents of their safety, the Command appealed for public calm and cooperation. Citizens were urged to refrain from spreading false information and instead support ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
