Troops Foil Terrorists Attack, Neutralize Dozens in Borno
In a decisive show of strength, Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents on their base in New Marte, Borno State.
The foiled assault was thwarted through a joint operation involving ground forces and the Air Component of OPHK. According to military sources, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the troops’ defensive position under the cover of darkness, but were met with overwhelming firepower from alert soldiers.
The Air Component quickly deployed Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms and delivered precise offensive strikes on the retreating insurgents, leading to the decimation of several fighters. At least one Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) SUV and multiple motorcycles used by the terrorists were either abandoned or destroyed during the confrontation.
