Police Rescue 12 Trafficked Children, Recover Weapons in Kogi, Abia
In a series of coordinated security operations in Kogi and Abia States, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in the ongoing nationwide crackdown on crime and child trafficking.
According to a press statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday, June 2, 2025, operatives of the Kogi State Police Command intercepted a green-colored Sharon vehicle that breached a security checkpoint at high speed. The fleeing driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped into a nearby bush, prompting officers to launch a swift search operation.
A thorough inspection of the vehicle led to the shocking discovery of a cache of arms and ammunition. Among the recovered items were five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 283 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 62 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and two rounds of 7.62x59mm ammunition. Police authorities believe the arms may be linked to a recent armed robbery at a fuel station in Kabba, with investigations currently underway to apprehend the suspect and dismantle any associated criminal networks.

In another significant operation in Abia State, police operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested two suspected child traffickers—identified as Blessing Emebo (female, 49 years old) and Sunday Emebo (male, 42 years old)—for allegedly running an illegal and unregistered motherless babies’ home from their apartment on Ikot Ekpene Road in Aba.
During the raid, 12 trafficked children, aged between six months and fourteen years, were rescued. Preliminary investigations indicated that the children were taken from various villages in the Arochukwu area. They have since been handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for care and protection, while the suspects remain in custody pending prosecution.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the swift actions of the operatives and reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to public safety and the protection of vulnerable groups. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, avoid entrusting their children to unfamiliar individuals, and report any suspicious activities to nearby police stations.
“These successes reaffirm the commitment of the Force to rid communities of crime, illegal arms, and exploitative practices against vulnerable populations,” the statement noted.
