Troops Foil Terrorists Attacks on Buratai, Mallam Fatori, Eliminate Scores, Recover Arms

In a decisive operation, gallant troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in collaboration with the Air Component, have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by terrorists in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area, and Mallam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a statement by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command OPHK, the attempted assault on Buratai occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 5th June 2025, when insurgents launched a multi-directional offensive aimed at infiltrating troops’ defensive positions. However, alert ground forces swiftly responded with superior firepower, while the Air Component provided close air support to neutralise the threat.

Following the failed ambush, several lifeless bodies of the terrorists were recovered alongside a large cache of assorted arms and ammunition. Troops have continued extensive exploitation of the area to prevent regrouping by the fleeing insurgents.

In a related development, troops deployed at Mallam Fatori also thwarted a simultaneous terrorist attack launched from multiple fronts. The attackers, who initially advanced under cover of darkness, were met with fierce resistance by the Nigerian troops, supported by the Air Combat Command’s air platforms.

The ensuing gunfight, which lasted for hours, forced the terrorists into disarray. Many of them were neutralised during pursuit operations, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Preliminary assessment indicates the recovery of several AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Rocket Propelled Grenade launchers, and various terrorist logistics equipment.

The ongoing operations are being supported by the Nigerian Army’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Command, providing critical reconnaissance and precision engagement.

This coordinated onslaught further underscores the Nigerian military’s unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and denying them freedom of action in the North East theatre of operations.
