Nasarawa Police Launch Manhunt as 13 ‘Dangerous’ Suspects Escape Detention Cell

Nasarawa Police Launch Manhunt as 13 Dangerous Suspects Escape Detention Cell

Thirteen suspects, including several facing serious charges such as kidnapping and culpable homicide, have escaped from police detention after breaking through the rear wall of their cell at the Area Command Headquarters in Nasarawa State, PRNigeria learnt.

Police sources confirmed the jailbreak to Zagazola Makama on Sunday, revealing that the escape occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 14, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m.

The suspects were reportedly being held under the custody of the Officer-in-Charge of Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism units when they managed to breach the cell wall and flee the facility.

Among the escapees are:

Jamilu Abdulsalam – chain theft and kidnapping

Abdullahi Yahaya – chain theft, kidnapping, and culpable homicide

Usman Yerima – chain theft, kidnapping, and culpable homicide

Abba Musa – chain theft, kidnapping, and culpable homicide

Idris Hussaini – chain theft, kidnapping, and culpable homicide

Abu Amu – chain theft and kidnapping

Hamza Abubakar – chain theft, kidnapping, and culpable homicide

Usman Ibrahim (a.k.a. Tecno) – chain theft, grievous bodily harm, membership of an unlawful society, and culpable homicide

Abdullahi Muhammed – held under court order

Police authorities say a manhunt has been launched to recapture the fugitives and restore public safety.

In the aftermath of the escape, the Cell Record Officer, Duty Officer on shift during the incident, the cell guard, and the visiting-round officer have all been queried and are being held accountable for potential negligence or complicity.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has assured the public of intensified efforts to re-arrest the suspects and prevent similar incidents in the future.
