Police Extend Tinted Glass Permit Deadline to August 2025

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the extension of the grace period for the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement to August 12, 2025, as part of its ongoing review and improvement of the permit application process.

The extension was approved by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, following widespread feedback and concerns raised by the public over the recent reactivation of the digital application portal.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police emphasized that the decision was driven by a commitment to “transparent, inclusive, and citizen-focused policing,” and assured Nigerians that their voices are being heard and valued in the ongoing reform process.

“This extension is to allow for further enhancements and refinements to the application system, ensuring that it is user-friendly, secure, and accessible to all applicants,” the statement noted. “No member of the public will be unduly disadvantaged during this period.”

The NPF further revealed that efforts are ongoing to improve both physical and contactless (digital) options for obtaining the permit. These improvements include streamlined procedures, enhanced verification mechanisms, and measures aimed at eliminating delays and minimizing inconvenience to applicants.

The public is reminded that the only authorized platform for applying or renewing the Tinted Glass Permit is www.possap.gov.ng. Citizens have also been urged to report any unauthorized or hidden charges, as well as incidents of extortion during the application or biometric capture stages. Complaints can be directed to the Police via the dedicated hotline: 09169967000.

Reiterating the Force’s commitment, Adejobi said, “The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in promoting public safety, leveraging digital innovation, and improving service delivery. We thank Nigerians for their continued patience and cooperation as we carry out these reforms.”

The Tinted Glass Permit is a regulatory requirement for vehicles with factory-fitted or modified tinted windows, primarily aimed at enhancing public security. The current extension is expected to provide ample time for users to complete the process without facing undue enforcement actions.
