Notorious Bandit Leaders Surrender Arms, Free Kidnapped Victims in Katsina

In a major breakthrough for the Nigerian Army’s counter-banditry operations, several notorious terrorist kingpins operating in Dan Musa Local Government Area of Katsina State have voluntarily surrendered their weapons and released kidnapped victims.

According to a statement posted on the Nigerian Army’s official X handle on Sunday, the disarmament followed ongoing negotiations under the arms surrender and disengagement initiative, spearheaded by the leadership of Operation Fasan Yamma in collaboration with critical stakeholders.

Among the bandit leaders who surrendered were Kamulu Buzaru, Manore, Nagwaggo, Lalbi, Alhaji Sani, Dogo Baidu, Dogo Nahalle, and Abdulkadir Black. The individuals reportedly pledged to renounce banditry and embrace peaceful coexistence with communities in the area.

As part of their gesture, the repentant bandits released 16 kidnapped persons, comprising seven women and nine children, on Saturday, June 14, 2025. They also promised to release the remaining captives in their custody by Sunday, June 15.

Authorities confirmed that all the freed victims have since been handed over to the appropriate local government officials for reunification with their families and further rehabilitation.

The military assured that the security situation in Dan Musa and surrounding areas remains stable, with troops maintaining a strong presence and continuous monitoring to prevent a resurgence of violence.

The arms surrender initiative forms part of broader efforts by security forces and government authorities to restore peace in northwestern Nigeria, which has been plagued by years of banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks on rural communities.
