Anambra Police Launch Manhunt as 2 Killed, 2 Abducted in Cult-Linked Shooting

Police authorities in Anambra State have confirmed a tragic cult-related shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday night at Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area, which led to the death of two individuals, the alleged abduction of two others, and the rescue of two victims, one of whom is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

The attack, which took place around 8:40 pm on June 19, 2025, at both the Total Junction and Tipper Junction in Oko, saw the swift intervention of security operatives. The operation was led by the Area Commander of Aguata and supported by a Joint Security Force that included personnel from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilantes.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and in a black Lexus 350 SUV without a number plate. They reportedly began shooting indiscriminately at Total Junction, leaving four persons wounded. One of the injured victims, a woman, is currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. The attackers allegedly abducted two others at the nearby Tipper Junction before fleeing the area.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives have taken control of the area and are already acting on credible intelligence gathered from eyewitnesses to track down the perpetrators.

“We urge residents to remain calm as investigations are ongoing. The Command is leveraging clues from the scene and information from witnesses for the possible arrest of the armed hoodlums. Further updates will be communicated,” Ikenga stated.

The Anambra State Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to restore order and ensure the culprits are brought to justice.
