Security sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that the police patrol team, operating in an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), came under sudden gunfire from the assailants, resulting in a fierce exchange.

Inspector Yahaya Bello was critically hit during the confrontation and later pronounced dead by a medical doctor at the General Hospital, Kankara.

Another officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sani Suleiman of the 27 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Katsina, sustained gunshot injuries. He is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital and is said to be responding well to care.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while efforts to track down the perpetrators are reportedly ongoing.
