According to the sources, a member of the gang was apprehended at a local market while attempting to buy food supplies for his group. During initial interrogation, the suspect reportedly led the troops to the gang’s hideout.
“On reaching the location, the other criminals opened fire, prompting an immediate response from the troops,” one of the sources revealed.
In the ensuing gunfight, one of the kidnappers was neutralised, while others managed to escape into the surrounding bush.
The troops successfully rescued a kidnapped victim from the hideout. A subsequent sweep of the area led to the recovery of one fabricated AK-47 rifle and a locally made Dane gun.
The rescued victim is currently undergoing debriefing and will soon be reunited with family members, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
