Female Suicide Bomber Kills 24 in Borno Attack

At least 24 people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a suicide bomb attack by a female terrorist in Konduga town, located about 36 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, PRNigeria learnt.

The Borno State Police Command, while confirming the incident, said the attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, when the suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at a popular food joint where residents had gathered in large numbers to purchase food.

According to police sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the powerful blast killed 24 people on the spot, including both men and women, while an unspecified number of others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The body of the attacker was mutilated by the explosion, with only her head recovered at the scene.

In the aftermath of the attack, a joint security team comprising personnel from the Military, Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) units, Tactical Teams, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters responded swiftly and secured the area.

The entire vicinity was cordoned off and thoroughly searched for additional explosives, but no further devices were discovered. Authorities have since restored calm to the area.

Injured victims were promptly evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for medical attention. The remains of the deceased were also deposited at the hospital mortuary, where medical personnel confirmed the deaths.

Efforts are underway to identify and profile the victims, and arrangements are being made to release the bodies to their families for burial in accordance with religious practices.

Meanwhile, security has been heightened across Konduga and surrounding areas to prevent any further attacks.
