Nigerian Army Emphasizes Adaptive Training to Combat Contemporary Challenges

The Nigerian Army is intensifying its focus on equipping its personnel with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle evolving security threats. This directive came during the weeklong Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA) 2025 Mid-Year Courses Appraisal Conference, which concluded today at the TRADOC NA auditorium in Minna.

The Chief of Training (Army), Major General Abubakar Ndalolo, represented by Major General Ayoola Aboaba, the Deputy Chief of Training (Army) for courses and examination, underscored the critical need for Nigerian Army training institutions to conduct relevant, adaptive, and mission-focused courses. This strategic shift aims to effectively counter the contemporary operational challenges facing the nation.

In his opening remarks, Major General Ndalolo highlighted the conference’s primary objective: to collectively assess the conduct and impact of courses across all Nigerian Army training institutions during the first half of 2025. This appraisal seeks to identify implementation gaps and align training with emerging operational demands. He reaffirmed the Army Headquarters Department of Training’s unwavering commitment to facilitating such crucial training, emphasizing that the ultimate goal remains to produce competent, confident, and mission-ready officers and soldiers.

Major General Ndalolo concluded by restating the Army Headquarters’ dedication to personnel training in line with the approved 2025 training directives. He commended participants for their professionalism in advancing improved training activities within the past six months.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Commander TRADOC NA, Major General Kevin Aligbe, represented by Major General Aminu Chinade, the Chief of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation TRADOC NA, stated that the conference provided a vital opportunity to assess progress and proffer solutions to challenges faced by Nigerian Army schools and formation training schools over the last six months.

Major General Aligbe noted that the conference directly aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, which aims “To Consolidate the Transformation of the NA Towards Bequeathing a Well-Motivated and Combat-Ready Force that can Effectively Discharge its Constitutional Responsibilities Within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.” He explained that the appraisal focused on compliance and implementation of approved courses, outlining challenges, and proposing mitigation measures to ensure adherence to the 2025 NA Training directives.

In his closing remarks, Major General Aligbe expressed satisfaction that the conference’s objectives had been achieved. He informed training institutions that the suggestions and updates presented by deputy commandants and directors of studies from various institutions would assist TRADOC NA in rationalizing courses for the third and fourth quarters of 2025, ensuring the achievement of its statutory responsibilities.

Major General Aligbe reiterated that Nigerian Army Training Institutions remain the sole avenue for capacity building and development of NA personnel, crucial for ensuring a high level of professionalism in delivering constitutional responsibilities. He urged the training schools to remain resolute in their pursuit of excellence and reminded participants of the forthcoming Combat Arms, Combat Support Arms, and Combat Service Arms Field Training Exercise (EXERCISE MUGUN BUGU 2025), scheduled for the end of the year, urging them to prepare accordingly.

Finally, Major General Aligbe extended gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for his strategic leadership, guidance, and unwavering support to TRADOC NA in achieving greatness for the Nigerian Army.
