Army Raid Kidnappers’ Hideout in Kwara, Arrest 8 Suspects, Rescue Captives

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested eight suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims during a daring operation at a criminal hideout in Kwara State.

The successful raid was carried out on Saturday, June 21, 2025, by soldiers of the 22 Armoured Brigade deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Patigi. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops stormed a suspected kidnappers’ enclave on the outskirts of Latandaji Village, Patigi Local Government Area.

According to a statement by Lieutenant Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the troops encountered mild resistance but swiftly overpowered the criminals with superior firepower.

Two kidnap victims, identified as Mr. Amos Moses and Mr. Philip Michael, were safely rescued during the operation. However, one person, Mr. Mohammed Mohammed, sustained gunshot wounds in the exchange of fire and was immediately evacuated to Bachita Teaching Hospital for treatment.

A further search of the area led to the recovery of two motorcycles and two expended cartridge shells suspected to have been used by the criminals.

The arrested suspects are currently in military custody undergoing preliminary investigations. They will be handed over to relevant authorities for prosecution upon conclusion of military procedures.

The Army reiterated its resolve to rid Kwara State and other parts of the country of criminal elements, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and actionable intelligence to support ongoing security efforts.

“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its mission to protect communities and restore lasting peace in all areas of deployment,” the statement added.

The operation highlights ongoing efforts by the military to ensure public safety and dismantle criminal networks across the country.
