Northern CAN Condemns Brutal Killing of Kaduna Wedding Guests in Plateau, Demand Justice
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) representing the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has expressed profound sorrow and outrage over the recent deadly attack on travellers from Kaduna in Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.
In a statement issued Tuesday by Elder Sunday Oibe, Secretary of Northern CAN, the association condemned the horrific assault and urged the federal and state governments, along with security agencies, to respond swiftly and decisively to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The statement lamented the worsening security situation across Nigeria, highlighting the alarming impunity with which criminal elements continue to operate. Northern CAN warned that the nation is dangerously edging toward chaos, with leadership silence and inaction only encouraging further violence and bloodshed.

According to the statement, the victims, who were en route from Zaria in Kaduna State to a wedding in Qu’anpan Local Government Area, got lost and stopped in Mangu around 8 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2025, to seek directions when they were violently attacked.
“We unequivocally condemn this heinous and senseless act of violence. This barbaric and inhuman action reflects the worst of human nature and must not be tolerated under any circumstances,” the statement read.
While acknowledging the security challenges in Mangu LGA, CAN emphasized that no justification exists for such cruel and ungodly acts. The association also called attention to the erosion of accountability within Nigeria’s justice system, which it said has emboldened lawlessness and urged urgent reforms to prevent people from resorting to self-help.
Northern CAN extended its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, mourning with them in their time of grief, and prayed for strength and healing for those injured in the attack.
The statement concluded with a heartfelt appeal to all Nigerians—regardless of religious or ethnic differences—to uphold the sanctity of human life and reject hatred, suspicion, and vengeance that threaten to undermine national unity and humanity.
