Operation Whirl Stroke: Troops Kill Bandit, Recover AK-47 in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have recorded a major breakthrough in their ongoing offensive against bandits and criminal elements in Taraba State, neutralizing a suspected bandit and recovering arms and other items during a clearance operation in Ussa Local Government Area.

Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Confirmed this in a statement on Friday.

The operation, which took place on Thursday, June 27, 2025, followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected bandits in the Kwesati area. Acting swiftly, the troops tactically positioned themselves along a suspected crossing route and laid an ambush.

He said upon contact, the troops engaged the bandits with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to flee into the surrounding forest. One of the bandits was neutralized during the exchange, while others are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

He noted that  subsequent sweep of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine with three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones.

Commending the troops for their gallantry, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Lauderdale the professionalism and resilience displayed during the operation. He assured the public of the brigade’s continued commitment to eliminating all threats to peace and security across Taraba State.

General Uwa also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid the ongoing campaign against banditry and other forms of criminality in the region.
