Security Watchdog Hails NSA, Military for Anti-Terrorism Successes

The Security Watch Network for Good Governance has lauded the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Nigerian military for their relentless efforts in combating insecurity nationwide.

The group specifically commended the NSA’s strategic coordination, which they say has yielded significant results in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes.

The commendation follows a series of nationwide military operations conducted between June 25 and 26, 2025. These operations led to the arrest of multiple suspects and the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons, including over 1,600 rounds of live ammunition, across various theaters of operation.

According to an official statement from the Nigerian military, 82 Division Task Force Battalion troops in Ngoshe, Borno State, recovered 408 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, 1,200 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two 40mm rocket-propelled grenades.

These items were found along a notorious insurgent withdrawal route frequently used by ISWAP and JAS elements. In a separate raid, 21 Special Armoured Brigade troops neutralized three terrorists in Bama Local Government Area, recovering a Dane gun and destroying terrorist hideouts. Troops in Monguno also intercepted a vehicle suspected of supplying logistics to terrorists, leading to an arrest and the recovery of food supplies, fuel, solar panels, motorcycle headlights, and mobile phones.

Further operations saw successes in other regions. In Kaduna State, 2 Battalion troops recovered an AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition after engaging fleeing gunmen in Birnin Gwari. In Zamfara State, 1 Brigade troops neutralized a notorious terrorist kingpin identified as “Mai Dada” during a counteroffensive in Maru Local Government Area. In the South-South region, troops in Bayelsa State apprehended two suspects with locally fabricated pistols and ammunition, while in Edo State, a criminal suspect was arrested in Etsako Central Local Government Area with a pump-action shotgun and cutlasses. In the North-Central region, Operation SAFE HAVEN conducted successful clearance operations in Plateau State.

Simultaneously, Operation WHIRL STROKE troops in Benue State rescued five kidnapped passengers after an armed encounter along the Peykia-Wukari road.

Abdullahi Maikano, Chairman of the Security Watch Network, emphasized that these operations are a testament to a “robust and well-coordinated national security approach.” He specifically credited the NSA for his crucial role in aligning inter-agency efforts and fostering synergy across the nation’s security architecture.

“The progress we are seeing today is not by chance. It is the result of deliberate, strategic coordination led by the National Security Adviser, supported by the brave men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces,” Maikano stated.

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements and dismantling their networks to restore peace and stability across the country.

The Security Watch Network urged continued public support for the nation’s security agencies, expressing confidence in the current leadership to deliver lasting peace.
