Police Rescue Trafficked Ghanaian Youth in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued a Ghanaian national, Sammed Iddrisu, who was trafficked into Nigeria under false pretenses of securing travel documents for migration to Europe. The operation, carried out on June 27, 2025, in Abuja, was a result of coordinated efforts between the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja and operatives of the FCT Police Command.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the rescue followed actionable intelligence received on June 16 from INTERPOL NCB Accra, Ghana. Investigations revealed that the victim’s father, Mr. Nartey Louda, was defrauded of GHC 55,000 by a trafficker identified as Attah, who falsely promised to secure a French visa and other travel documents for his son.

Following these assurances, Sammed Iddrisu travelled to Abuja on June 25 with the hope of obtaining the promised visa. However, upon his arrival, he was unlawfully detained and coerced into participating in fraudulent internet-based activities linked to the QNET pyramid scheme—a criminal operation masquerading as a legitimate e-commerce business.

Authorities disclosed that the same syndicate had earlier attempted to manipulate another Ghanaian, who managed to escape and return to Ghana. His report to the Ghanaian police triggered cross-border coordination with Nigerian authorities and led to Sammed’s rescue.

Through a combination of proactive surveillance, swift intelligence gathering, and rapid response by INTERPOL Abuja and the FCT Police, the victim was rescued, and reintegration procedures are currently underway.

The Nigeria Police Force stated that necessary steps are being taken to apprehend those behind the trafficking scheme and ensure they are brought to justice.

The Force also issued a strong warning to the public against falling for fraudulent travel offers. It urged individuals to verify migration-related promises through official diplomatic channels and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies.

For further updates, the public is encouraged to follow official police communications and remain vigilant against emerging transnational crime threats.
