Nigerian Army Provides Free Medical Aid, Educational Support in Zamfara Community
Hundreds of residents in the Rawayya community of Bungudu Local Government Area, Zamfara State, benefited from a free medical outreach and educational support program conducted by the 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army Gusau, on Thursday. The initiative is part of activities marking the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
Led by Brigadier General Timothy Opurum, Commander of the Brigade, the humanitarian effort aimed to strengthen civil-military relations and underscore the Army’s dedication to the health and welfare of local communities.
Held at Government Day Secondary School, Rawayya, the outreach offered a wide range of services, including free medical consultations, essential medications, eye screenings, blood pressure checks, and counseling. Women and the elderly were among the many beneficiaries who received vital care.

“We don’t only conduct kinetic operations; we also engage in non-kinetic efforts like this to connect with our people,” said Brig Gen Opurum, emphasizing the Army’s commitment to community engagement. He added that the initiative aligns with the Army’s broader civil-military cooperation goals and the spirit of NADCEL 2025, which commemorates 162 years of the Nigerian Army’s existence.
Beyond healthcare, the event also saw the distribution of free exercise books and other educational materials to students of the host school, providing much-needed support for their studies.
Alhaji Abubakar Rashi, the District Head of Rawayya, expressed profound gratitude for the gesture, describing it as “the first of its kind in the community” and highly impactful and timely. “We are sincerely grateful to the Army. This is a great gesture that will never be forgotten,” Rashi said, offering prayers for the Army’s continued success in combating insecurity. Beneficiaries echoed his sentiments, highlighting the significant positive impact of the outreach on their lives.
