IGP Egbetokun Mourns Retired AIG Liman Shettima
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Liman Shettima, who died on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at his residence in Jos, Plateau State.
In a condolence message issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP, on behalf of the entire officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and former colleagues of the late senior officer.

AIG Shettima, who retired from active service on June 4, 1999, was celebrated for his remarkable career and commitment to national service. He held several key positions during his time in the Force, including Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 6 Headquarters in Calabar, Commissioner of Police in Katsina State Command, and Commissioner of Police Administration at the Police Academy (POLAC).
Described as a man of integrity and an exemplary leader, the late AIG Shettima was widely respected for his contributions to policing excellence and nation-building.
IGP Egbetokun prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus. He also extended words of comfort to the grieving family and all those affected by the loss.
The Inspector-General joined the broader policing community in mourning the passing of one of its finest veterans.
