Board Approves Promotion of 95 Senior Officers in Immigration, Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional Services

The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 95 senior officers across four paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior, marking a significant boost in the career progression of top personnel in Nigeria’s security and emergency services.

In a statement issued by the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Maj. Gen. A.M. Jibril (Rtd), the board announced the elevation of officers from the ranks of Controllers/Comptrollers/Commandants to Assistant Controllers/Comptrollers/Commandants-General and Deputy Controllers/Comptrollers/Commandants-General.

A detailed breakdown shows that the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) recorded the promotion of four Assistant Controller Generals to Deputy Controller Generals (ACG–DCG), while 31 officers moved from Controller of Corrections (CC) to Assistant Controller General (ACG).

Similarly, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) had six ACGs promoted to DCGs and 20 CCs to ACGs.

For the Federal Fire Service (FFS), three ACGs were promoted to DCGs, and two CCs to ACGs. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) recorded three ACG–DCG promotions and 22 CC–ACG elevations.

In addition to the promotions, the CDCFIB held its 03–25 Board meeting where it approved the constitution of a committee to develop a harmonised Scheme of Service for the four services. This effort is expected to streamline career structures, job responsibilities, and service progression across the agencies.

The board also considered 224 disciplinary cases involving erring officers. The cases resulted in various outcomes including dismissals, compulsory retirements, rejection of appeals against dismissal, exonerations, warning letters, and loss of seniority. The distribution of the cases is as follows: NCoS – 143, NIS – 31, FFS – 4, and NSCDC – 46.

Meanwhile, the board has cautioned the public—especially job seekers—against falling victim to scammers, assuring that all recruitment and promotion processes remain transparent and aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Looking ahead, the CDCFIB also approved the timeline for the 2025 Promotion Exercise, which will begin in August and conclude in November 2025.

Maj. Gen. Jibril congratulated all promoted officers, urging them to justify the trust reposed in them. “To whom much is given, much is expected. The officers must bring their wealth of knowledge to bear in their respective responsibilities,” he said.

The promotions and disciplinary actions mark a significant move toward strengthening professionalism, discipline, and motivation across Nigeria’s paramilitary services.
