Tinubu Appoints Muhammad Babangida, Sanusi Musa to Head Key Federal Institutions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Muhammad Babangida, son of former military President Ibrahim Babangida, and Sunusi Musa, a prominent lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), as chairmen of two key federal institutions.

Muhammad Babangida, 53, will serve as the Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, while Sunusi Musa has been appointed Chairman of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR). The appointments are part of a broader reshuffling of leadership across several federal agencies.

Babangida holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland. He also completed the Executive Program on Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.

He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Maiduguri and a Master’s degree in Legislative Drafting from the University of Benin.

In addition to Babangida and Musa, President Tinubu also appointed Lydia Kalat Musa from Kaduna State as Chairman of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA); Jamilu Wada Aliyu from Kano State as Chairman of the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC); and Yahuza Ado Inuwa, also from Kano State, as Chairman of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

Other appointees include Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu from Sokoto State, who will serve as Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA); Sanusi Garba Rikiji from Zamfara State, who has been named Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN); Mrs. Tomi Somefun from Oyo State, who will serve as Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC); and Dr. Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria from Kaduna State, who has been appointed Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).

The appointments were confirmed in an official statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
