Troops foil terrorists’ attack, intercept ‘suspicious’ surveillance drone in Katsina
Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation FANSAN YANMA have successfully thwarted a suspected bandit attack on military formations in Sabuwa and Faskari Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
In a coordinated response, the troops also intercepted a surveillance drone suspected to have been deployed by the criminals.
According to credible security sources, the incident occurred at approximately 10:25 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, when armed men on motorcycles were spotted moving suspiciously around the Maiganguma village axis within the two LGAs.
Simultaneously, a drone was observed hovering over the general area of Dandume and Machika villages, particularly near the perimeters of Operation Sharan Daji Camp and Machika Military Super Camp.

Troops immediately initiated checks with nearby security formations to determine if the drone belonged to any friendly forces. All units confirmed they had not deployed any aerial device in the area.
Moments later, the drone was seen maneuvering behind Wori Rock, only to reappear in the airspace. Troops on patrol opened fire on the device, prompting its operator to retreat the drone back toward Wori Rock, where it eventually disappeared from sight.
The motorcycle-riding suspects fled into the surrounding bush and successfully evaded capture despite a swift pursuit by troops. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded during the incident.
Military authorities have launched an investigation to identify the operators of the intercepted drone and to determine whether the suspected bandits were conducting surveillance or targeting military assets.
