Kano Judicial Commission Demotes Court Registrar, Officer Over Misconducts

The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has sanctioned two judiciary staff members for acts of gross misconduct, including forgery and dereliction of duty.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo-Ibrahim, the disciplinary actions were approved during the JSC’s 84th meeting held on Friday.

Adamu Salisu, a Court Registrar, was found guilty of forging affidavits of service, including the signature of a bailiff, and unlawfully signing documents as a Commissioner for Oaths. Following deliberations, the JSC demoted Salisu from Grade Level 13 to Grade Level 12 and removed him as Registrar in charge of High Court No. 13.

Jibo-Ibrahim stated that Salisu confessed to the forgery during the investigation and was issued a stern warning against further unethical behavior or attempts to influence others to commit similar acts. The commission warned that any recurrence could lead to criminal prosecution.

“The Commission acted to uphold the principles of integrity and discipline within the judiciary. Such misconduct cannot be tolerated,” the spokesperson emphasized.

In a separate case, Yusuf Ayuba, a Clerical Assistant attached to High Court No. 8 on Miller Road, was investigated by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC) and found to have abandoned his duty post without justification for four consecutive months. He was consequently demoted from Grade Level 5 to Grade Level 4.

The Commission stated that both sanctions are intended to serve as a deterrent and reinforce its zero-tolerance stance on professional misconduct within the judiciary.

“The JSC remains committed to enforcing discipline, accountability, and ethical standards across all levels of the judiciary,” Jibo-Ibrahim affirmed.
